OK, so I'm now up to giving an update on the past few days.
To explain this as simply as possible, we are at the next to last step. We've found this office to be very uncooperative. E-mails go unanswered or have short, curt answers like "check the website" when the website doesn't address our question, they don't answer their phone very often and act annoyed when they do.
One example was some documents that we sent to them via Fed Ex overnight mail (this cost about $150). We e-mailed him the day we sent it and the day after when we received confirmation that it was delivered. They knew the time crunch we were on and everything. Josh called every day for a week waiting for them to pick up. Finally, they picked up a week later and confirmed that they received that paperwork THAT day. Josh said, "we got confirmation that it was delivered there a week ago." The worker proceeded to admit that it was delivered to their mailroom but they didn't bother to pick it up for a week. GRRRRR!
So, the latest we got an e-mail from them saying that Josh's background check came back but mine was rejected and they were re-sending it. They then ended the e-mail with "Please refrain from contacting us for at least two weeks!" WHAT?!
So we were left not understanding if I needed to get fingerprinted again, if they scanned and sent a copy or what. From the time they sent the fingerprints to the time we got notice that they came back was 3 weeks. I fell apart thinking that I possibly had another 3 weeks here without all of my family.
So, with the help of our senator, a friend with the FBI and the lady who will do the last step, we are hoping to get this thing pushed through. There is no reason it should take another 3 weeks and everyone is trying to get in contact with this office in Rome to tell them to make this happen soon.
I should know more Monday. Josh and Andrew will leave Wednesday. It is almost 100% unlikely that the girls and I will get to go then. I'm hoping that this will be done by the end of this week or sometime next week.
Prayers are still appreciated!
